🧪 Data sampling
@May 18, 2023
Working with data can occur in two modes - exploration or recurring monitoring. While for monitoring, data precision is of utmost importance, and speed is not much of an issue (as reports usually load periodically), for exploration, it is desirable to act fast when applying new filters, date ranges, and choosing integrations; precision is not the most important.
Understanding these two modes lead us to…
👩🏿🏭 How does it work? 🧙🏿♀️ Why is it awesome?
Automatically for communities with over 20.000 members! You do not need to turn anything on, no need to mess with any settings. If your community is smaller, sampling will not affect your account, as it is not necessary.
When you edit a report in the Monitoring module - for example, by applying a new filter, changing a date range, or changing the integration selection - the data analysis will be carried out over a smaller, sampled data set. This ensures the data query is significantly faster, making data exploration more pleasant, as you no longer need to wait for the whole data set to load after applying the specified conditions.
Once you are satisfied with the conditions applied to your data set, just hit Proceed button on the purple bottom bar to apply the filters to the complete data set in order to receive the precise, non-sampled data.
The only thing that remains is for you to experience the warp data load speed in your account. 🚀
🏗️ Dashboard widget drag-n-drop rearrange
@May 10, 2023
A dashboard needs to look just right! Data widgets need to be the right size and at the right place! Just because of that…
👩🏿🏭 How does it work? & 🧙🏿♀️ Why is it awesome?
Easier than before! Whereas up until now, you only could rearrange and resize dashboard widgets from the dashboard context menu, now you just grab them by the handle, drag it where you want them and resize them from the widget context menu!
Well, it might be a case of one video saying more than all the words above, so just check out this Claap 👇🏿😅
Neat! How about you try it out directly in your account? 🚀
🫂 Public sharing of dashboards
@May 10, 2023
Sometimes, you want to share your community data with people without an AhoyConnect account - be it coworkers, leadership or your community members. If this feels like a use case that you could benefit from, you will be happy to hear that…
👩🏿🏭 How does it work?
Simple! Just click the Share
button in the upper right corner of any Monitoring dashboard.
A modal will appear in which you can select if you want to share the dashboard via a private link (which will only work for people with Ahoy account), or by allowing public access, a link is generated which allows you to share a dashboard even with people without an account in your Ahoy instance. The sharing is view only.
No need to worry about privacy, though! Each time you turn the public sharing of a dashboard off and on again, a new link is generated, meaning only the people with the current link have access to the dashboard.
🧙🏿♀️ Why is it awesome?
Because now, you can update stakeholders by just sending a link. The data update automatically, and performance indicators will never get lost in spreadsheets and emails again!
Or, how about creating a dashboard to let your community members know who is the most active? Just whip up a quick leaderboard using our Most active or Most engaged data sources, and you are good to go!
👩🏿🍳 What are we cooking up next?
As mentioned above, leaderboard dashboard templates will be coming soon!
What are you waiting for?! Go share a dashboard in your account! 🚀
🛬 2nd batch of templates and the ‘➕ Recently added’ category
@February 16, 2023
It’s just a few days since the Private BETA launch, and we are already…
👩🏿🏭 How does it work? & 🧙🏿♀️ Why is it awesome?
- 🚀 Top activity types template helps you get to the bottom of which activity types are the most common in your community and each connected integration - is it a Discord message, Slack emoji reaction, GitHub PR opened or something else altogether? You are a clock away from finding out.
- 🚀 Top integrations - activities template helps you understand which integration is the main driver in your community and which ones to look out for when it comes to activity growth.
- 🚀 New activities template is a top-level overview of how many new activities landed in your community each period so it is a great helper when it comes to assessing the activity growth in general.
- 🚀 Community activity overview template recaps how many activities your community has generated up to date.
- 🌱 Community growth overview template captures the total volume of your community as of right now as well as at the end of each period.
To make these templates easier to find, we also included a new category in the dashboard template library called ‘➕Recently added’ so that you have all the new additions available in a single place, making it super easy to try them all out.
👩🏿🍳 What are we cooking up next?
Next in line are dashboard templates that will help you understand what are the resonating topics in your community, who your most engaged members are, and how does a high-level overview of your community look like!
While you wait for the next batch, why don’t you try out the latest template additions directly in your account? 🛫
👩🏿🎓 Integrations - explanation 0th step for oAuth integrations
@February 14, 2023
Yes, sometimes it can get tricky to connect a new integration right. What permissions do I need? How to work with a bot? Which repos should I select? All of these are valid questions that you no longer need to ask as…
👩🏿🏭 How does it work?
- When connecting oAuth integrations (Discord, Slack, Twitter, GitHub, HubSpot), instead of going to the external authorisation page directly, we now show a new 0th step with a connection guide.
- On this new page, we provide information about what permissions you need or if actions are needed after the integration is connected in order for it to work properly.
- Check out this Loom to see the details. 👇🏿
🧙🏿♀️ Why is it awesome?
Because you no longer need to guess if, for example, Discord needs the bot to be added to private channels manually, how we are processing Twitter members or how to connect a combination of public and private GitHub repos correctly.
Go check it out in your account if you wonder how to connect and integration proper! 🤘🏿
📊 Monitoring Private BETA
@February 13, 2023
Ahoy mate! Permission to come aboard granted. Well, at least for a selected few… 😅
Private BETA
of our new Monitoring feature just dropped the anchor in all current accounts!👩🏿🏭 How does it work?
- In the new
Monitoring
module, we are bringing you four well-thought-out templates (for now) to answer your deepest community-related questions. - But as describing it in writing would take ages, please check out this amazing Loom by Jerome, which says it all!
🧙🏿♀️Why is it awesome?
- Because you can now learn things like…
- …what sentiment does my whole community, or a specific part of it, carry?
- …who are the new members in my community that have not interacted yet, and what can I do about it?
- …which members are responsible for the highest impact activities?
#didanyonesayambassador?
- …or which channels are the most engaged with?
- All of this ☝🏿 packaged in beautiful and well-annotated dashboard templates that you can use with a click of a button!
👩🏿🍳 What are we cooking up next?
- More data sources and dashboard/report templates will be coming out periodically in the following days and weeks.
- We are working hard on revamping our onboarding and pricing, enabling us to open up the app to public sign-up → stay tuned for more updates about
Ahoy 2.0
!
How about testing the water in your account? 😉
🍫 Integrations - channel list
@February 7, 2023
Sometimes, staying on top of which channels Ahoy can see into can get confusing. That is why…
🧙🏿♀️ Why is it awesome?
Because you no longer need to guess which channels Ahoy can pull data from or if you added the Ahoy bot into these channels 🤖
Especially valuable for Discord and Slack communities. 👌🏿
👷🏿♀️ How does it work?
- We added a new tab to the integration details page called Channels, which displays a list of available channels.
- For some integrations, it might not be channels but
Repositories
(GitHub),Categories
(Discourse), … - For Slack, we also display which channels are not native but a part of the Slack connections.
- If some channels are missing, try hitting the
load more
button before you make sure the Ahoy bot is added to the channel. 👌🏿
Go check them out in your account. 🔍
💫 Integrations - details page
@January 31, 2023
Don’t you just love it when things look great and work well?! If that is the case, we think you might enjoy…
🧙🏿♀️ Why is it awesome?
- Because the tabs neatly divide the information and functionality making it easier to navigate as well as work with.
- Because we moved the Disable button into its separate tab called the
Danger zone
(Any Kenny Loggins fans in the house? 😅) so that you never disable an integration by mistake. - Because it looks the 💣!
- As is apparent from this petit demo. 📽️ 👇🏿
👩🏿🍳 What are we cooking up next?
Due to capacity being needed elsewhere, this is where we will pause our Integration revamp effort for now. But once we pick it back up, we are looking forward to introducing:
- more details about the integration on the
Overview
tab, - a new first step to in the integration connection flow describing how to connect the integration properly to ensure best results and what data to expect,
- information on when was the last data batch fetched for each integration.
Go ahead and bask in its glory in your account right now. 💖
🗑 Slack joined activities deprecated
@January 27, 2023
Just a quick public service announcement…
member joined
and the channel joined
activities for Slack.The reasons were simple, as Slack was the only integration tracking these activity types, so their deprecation led to more consistency across all integrations.
We also believe this improves our activity tracking, as now members who just joined your community but did not do any other activity will not be counted as doing any activity, nor will joining-related activities be part of the Any activity scoring rule in the Scoring system for Slack integrations.
Don’t worry, though; we still process this information and set member properties (such as member joined community date based on these activities, but we just no longer display them in the app.
🌻 Integrations page - new connection flow
@January 23, 2023
We have made another improvement in our Integrations module to bring it up to date.
🧙🏿♀️ Why is this awesome?
Because the new flow not only looks better but also is more fluid as the whole connection process is done within the same element with an intuitive connection to the Directory.
But do not take our word for it; check it out in all its glory in the screenshot below, or directly in your account. 🚀
👩🏿🍳 What are we cooking up next?
The last outstanding part of the Integrations module we want to improve is the Integration details page. 🤞🏿
📂 Integrations page - Directory
@January 17, 2023
In case you have ever asked yourself which integrations are available in Ahoy, what data they can pull in (or send out) or if you are just frustrated that adding a new integration is hidden behind a button and a modal, you will most likely be excited about…
👷🏿♀️ How does it work? & 🧙🏿♀️ Why is it awesome?
In simplicity, we now showcase all the integrations available in Ahoy neatly organized on one page.
This way, knowing what you can connect and what data we support is available at a glance with the integration descriptions.
The categories are also quite neat!
👩🏿🍳 What are we cooking up next?
The integration connection flow is next on the chopping block! 🔪 Stay tuned!
How about you give it a taste in your account 😉
🧲 ‘Engagement stage across all integrations’ filter
@January 13, 2023
Ever wonder who the members engaged across all integrations are? Or which community members do no activities across all their connected platforms?
Well, you’re in luck as…
Engagement stage across all integrations
filter just landed in Ahoy!👷🏿♀️ How does it work?
- the filter returns members that have the same relative
Engagement stage
across all of their integrations (and by “relative”, we meanlowest
,highest
,not lowest
ornot highest
) - we also reconciled this new filter with its older sibling 👉🏿
Engagement stage in any integration
filter, as apparent from this screenshot #super-neat!
🧙🏿♀️ Why is it awesome?
- because using the
Engagement stage across all integrations
= - =
lowest
, you can learn who the members without any activity across all of their connected platforms are - =
highest
, you can understand who the super-engaged members of your community are no matter which integration they are part of - in other words, it is quite powerful in finding potential ambassadors or dead 💀 community members
How about you go take it for a spin in your account? 💃🏿
💅🏿 Integrations page - list
@January 11, 2023
📅 New year, new me! 💅🏿
Our integrations page took this motto to 💛, as…
🧙🏿♀️ Why is it awesome?
- the page is now more intuitive to navigate and more user-friendly than before
- the information about the state the integration is in, and the reason for the state is easier to find and act upon
👩🏿🍳 What are we cooking up next?
- this is just the first step in the overall revamp of the integration connection flow we will be continuing shortly
The only thing that remains if for you to check out how beautiful it is in your account 😉
🎉 Quality of life improvements - avatar, data loading and naming
@January 5, 2023
Happy new year! 🎉
I hope you are taking it easy. Which is why we recently released a few minor quality-of-life improvements so that no UX hardship goes your way. Check them out! 👇🏿
1️⃣ The user avatar and modal was moved to the sidebar
We moved the user avatar and profile + logout modal to the sidebar so that you can access it from all pages. No need to look for it all over the screen anymore 🔍
2️⃣ The data loading spinner was moved to the sidebar
Similar to the user avatar, we just wanted to make it more apparent that the data in your connected integrations are either loading or need your attention. 👌🏿
3️⃣ We unified the Engagement stage naming across the app
Initially, we called the Engagement stages
Activity stages
or Activity status
in several places of the app, but not all should be reconciled. No more confusion! 💪🏿
💬 Content - dismissed keyword suggestions
@November 14, 2022
Seasons change. So do topics discussed in your community. Therefore, a keyword you once deemed not essential and dismissed a suggestion for might gain relevancy again.
To make sure you always track the right keywords…
👷🏿♀️ How does it work?
Simple! AI keyword suggestions you dismissed now appear in the lower section of the Content > Keywords
settings.
Un-dismissing a dismissed suggestion is as simple as clicking the ‘bin’ icon next to it.
Check out this Loom to see it in action! 🎬
🧙🏿♀️ Why is it awesome?
Because now, you are always sure you are on top of what is brewing in your community, as well as which topics are not relevant to track.
Are you sure you track all the right keywords? It can’t hurt to double-check! Just head on over to your account and see for yourself. 😉
🧠 AI Keyword suggestions
@November 18, 2022
If only there were a way to know what your community is talking about, right? 🤔 If only a click of a button could highlight the most impactful and trending topics, your members mention!
Once again, Ahoy’s got you covered! Put your hands up 🙌 and celebrate 🎉 as…
👩🏿🏭 How does it work?
- we processed the last 30 days' worth of your activities (as will be customary for any new integrations connected)
- based on this, 👆 we will be surfacing the keywords with the most common occurrence in your community, which you can include in your keyword tracking
- new suggestions will be available every 7 days
- after each recalculation, we will offer 3 more keywords for you to consider and track
- sadly, the feature only works for English language activities (let us know if you want us to turn this feature off for you if your community is non-English 🙏)
Wanna see it in action? Check out this Loom! 👇
🧙🏿♀️ Why is it awesome?
- because we take the work onto ourselves and remove guessing out of the equation when it comes to surfacing the most important topics in your community
👩🏿🍳 What are we cooking up next?
- we implemented the 30-day, 7-day and 3-suggestion limits in a configurable way so we will observe and fine-tune these limits on our end in the following weeks, ensuring smooth interaction and high value for you
- for the time being, this concludes our focus on the
Content
topic - even though we originally intended to follow upKeywords
withCollections
, we are shifting priorities slightly so we will get back toContent
earliest in Q1-Q2 next year
What are you waiting for?! Go see what your community is talking about! 🔍💬🤖😉
📫 HubSpot Contacts - Outbound
@November 16, 2022
Ahoy, everyone!
Working without data silos and integrating systems together is the name of the game, so…
🧙🏿♀️ Why is it awesome?
This first iteration of our outbound integration will enable you to send community-related data from Ahoy to HubSpot, making it easier than ever to keep your community engagement data organized and accessible in your CRM.
With this integration, you will be able to track community activity and see which members are most engaged, making it easy to identify and connect with potential customers and partners.
👷🏿♀️ How does it work?
It’s super easy, barely an inconvenience!
- You just have to navigate to our Integration setting page, find your HubSpot integration, and select Outbound data mapping.
- You will then have the option to select what fields you want to push from Ahoy to HubSpot. Currently, there is only a pre-selection of fields that you can push - this mostly concerns activity stages for each integration you have set-up, tags, segments, and other community-focused metadata. Check it out here.
- We’ll automatically create these fields in your HubSpot. You can then change their labels if you want because we’ll be able to identify them via the API name.
- Lastly, we will push the contents of these fields onto contacts in HubSpot, that we matched onto community members you have in Slack. We will not create new contacts in HubSpot this way.
And voila, that’s it. You should be able to see Ahoy fields in HubSpot now 🎉
👩🏿🍳 What are we cooking up next?
We still have several improvements we’d like to make that we are considering for the future, namely
- outbound connection for any custom fields you have set-up in Ahoy
- ability to send un-matched community members to HubSpot and then and create new contacts there
- sending granular community activities from individual members to HubSpot (similar to what’s in Member detail section in Ahoy)
We’ll monitor feedback and prioritize next steps based on that, so if you have an interest in one of these particular improvements, let us know 🙏
🎙️ Engagement stage across integrations
@November 16, 2022
Community members behave differently on each community platform. That is why we enable you to score their interactions per platform.
At the same time, when evaluating communities as a whole, the most engaged members across all integrations are where it's at! Which is why…
Engagement stage in any integration
filter for all accounts!👷🏿♀️ How does it work?
- First up, every engagement stage (set up in the integration
Scoring system
) now has a relative ordering property. - Based on the new relative property, we defined a filter that allows you to select members with the
highest
,lowest
,not highest
andnot lowest
engagement stage in any integration they are active in. - This filter can also be applied to filter the activities of these members 👆
- Check out these pictures for more details. 👇
🧙🏿♀️ Why is it awesome?
- Because while up until now, we did not have a way to assess cross-integration engagement, now we do!
- This way, you are able to hone in on the most engaged members across your whole community, regardless of which integration (or how many), they are active in.
- By using the
Engagement stage in any integration is highest
, you are able to search for possible ambassadors globally and with ease. - The filter works across integrations with a different number of engagement stages as well as different naming!
Now you are just one filtering away from learning who the most engaged members in your community are! 🔍
